Chest Worth
This chrome plaster cast of my chest, created prior to my radical reduction surgery, distorts the viewer’s reflection to confront the gaze women/AFAB continually face. The reflective surface highlights what patriarchal culture deems valuable in AFAB bodies, while its weight alludes to the burden of carrying that objectification. As a lesbian, this work reclaims and materializes the experience of being looked at rather than seen.
